Welcome to Star Dragon Press.

This site is for people who love stories. People learn about each other through stories. It’s a type of magic; to take something invisible from one person’s imagination and transmit it to another. It’s also how people deal with emotions that are still too deep for language. Whether its about dealing with mindset or learning vicariously through the someone else’s experience, we need stories to unravel and make sense of out lives. And there are millions of ways to get those stories out there.

My name is Judie Troyansky I’m an author and I’m an artist. It wasn’t until I was almost 50 that I actually claimed the title. A teacher I had, who had passed away, came to me in a meditation. He told me I had put myself into a box, like the one he had watched me make in silver. I was so obsessed with claiming one title– of being only one thing — I’d ignore all my other gifts. I couldn’t find my path, because I couldn’t settle and make that choice. He had taught jewellery making when I met him. But he had published a book of poetry, and he was a graphic artist and a print maker. He was Lomawywesa, and he wasn’t meant to fit inside a box. If I couldn’t find my title, he would give me one—ARTIST.

There is art all around us. Art, like dreams, is the way our right / intuitive mind speaks to our left / analytical mind. Even the most scientific person will look at the solution to a math or physics problem and call it ‘elegant’.

Everyone creates art in some way. It can be through painting, sculpture, or literature; through dance, music, or theatre. It can be through cooking a satisfying meal, decorating a room, knitting a sweater, or telling a story about something that happened at work.

We are all artists. We are all creative. But we’ve forgotten. It starts in school when we are made to choose a path—art or science, not both. Stories become exercises in comprehension, grammar, and vocabulary. Play is regulated to fit within time periods. We develop inner critics that tell us we aren’t good enough. Our work will never be in a gallery, or on a bookshelf or on the radio. And we believe that voice because fame is the measure of every artist. Or is it?

Learning to color inside the lines was meant to teach us motor skills. It wasn’t supposed to become a lifelong rule.

If it makes you happy, who cares if you sing off-key. If the music moves you, who cares if you have two left feet. Go squish some clay, color, keep a journal of your favorite memories.

Creativity is our birthright. We are artists.
